Chinese FM Warns Japan Not to "Grapple with" China

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has warned Japan not to "grapple with" China in all respects, a diplomat told Xinhua on Thursday.

According to the diplomat, who asked not to be named, Wang had a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida, at the request of the Japanese side, on the sidelines of the foreign ministers" meetings on East Asia cooperation held here.

During the meeting, Wang said this year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II and is thereby of special significance.

On the historical issue, Wang said, Japan should take a serious and responsible attitude instead of attempting to muddle through.

On the direction of national development, Japan should cherish and adhere to peace, and avoid meeting the same fate as in WWII.

On the attitude towards China, Wang said, instead of "grappling with" China in all respects, Japan should put into practice its promise that China and Japan are cooperation partners, not threat to each other.

In response to the exploration in the East China Sea, which the Japanese foreign minister mentioned during the meeting, Wang gave a brief account of the fact and truth and China"s stand on the issue, requiring Japan to treat it in a matter-of-fact manner.
