A Chinese diplomat on Thursday hailed New York State"s adoption of a resolution expressing welcome to President Xi Jinping"s state visit to the U.S. later this month and bipartisan support for stronger ties with China and friendship between the two peoples.

Zhang Qiyue, Consul General of China in New York, said here at a press conference that connections between the peoples of the United States and China have never been so close and the resolution New York State have adopted reflects the reality and shows the aspiration to build even closer ties.

"The resolution you have adopted captures the spirit of our bilateral relations," Zhang told an audience consisting of people including New York State senators and assembly members. "Today, ours has become the defining bilateral relations in the 21st century."

New York is the most popular destination for Chinese people and China became New York City"s fourth-biggest source of visitors last year. New York also boasts the most Chinese students and companies among all American cities, according to Zhang.

"I believe that with your support and the active participation of everyone in our two nations, an even brighter future for the China-U.S. relationship is unfolding right before us," said the Chinese diplomat.

She also stressed that the timing of the resolution couldn"t have been better, as Chinese President will pay a state visit to the U.S. in a few weeks, which will mark a new milestone in the new model of major-country relationship.

"President Xi"s visit will bring a lot of good news to our already robust people-to-people exchanges," she said. "Let"s work together to ensure the success of the state visit."
